Video Poker is a beloved game that can be gambled on in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through an Internet account. The regulations are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the highest combination of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, without the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the play button. A hand of 5 cards will be "distributed" on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards are given out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful players are agile enough to pick the most profitable game every instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the bettor a chance to double their wins, in which case another game is played. There are also variations among specific machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.
