Electronic Poker is a popular game that is able to be played in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your personal computer, through a web account. The regulations are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to achieve the greatest mixture of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, without the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A hand of five cards will then be "distributed" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has chosen which cards he wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful players are agile enough to pick the most money-making machine every time.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that has been won. Further, several styles of the game give the player an opportunity to double their wins, in which situation a further game is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
